Privacy notice
Last updated October 5, 2026
This notice explains what personal information Sonify, Inc. collects on this backer site, why, who receives it, how long we keep it, and your rights. Sonify, Inc. (1209 Orange Street, Wilmington, DE 19801, USA) is responsible for your information. Contact us at contact@trysonify.com.
What we collect
- From Kickstarter: your name, email, backer number, the reward and add-ons you pledged for, what you pledged, and your country. If Kickstarter gave us a shipping address and phone number, we use them only to fill in the address form for you.
- From you on this site: your shipping address and phone number, your delivery choice, your colour preference, any extras you choose, whether you want marketing emails (and when you said so), when you accepted our terms, and any messages you send us.
- About payments: what you paid, when, and Stripe’s payment reference. Your card details go directly to our payment provider, Stripe. We never see or store your card number.
- Security information: a sign-in cookie that keeps you signed in for up to 30 days, when you last opened your backer page, and a scrambled (one-way hashed) form of your IP address, used only to stop abuse such as repeated sign-in attempts.
Why we use it, and on what legal basis
- To deliver your Kickstarter reward and anything you buy here: needed to perform our agreement with you.
- To take payment, keep tax and accounting records, and meet customs rules: our legal obligations.
- To keep the site and your information secure and prevent fraud: our legitimate interests.
- To count colour preferences, so we can decide whether to make a lighter colour: our legitimate interests. “No preference” is always an option.
- To send you news and offers about Sonify products: only with your consent, which you can withdraw at any time.
Who receives it
- Stripe (payments): your email, what you’re paying for, and your order and backer numbers. Stripe is in the US.
- Cloudflare (hosting and database), in the US.
- Resend (sends our emails), in the US: your email address and the message.
- For US deliveries: Pirate Ship and USPS receive your name, address, phone number, parcel contents and backer number, which may be printed on the label.
- For deliveries outside the US: our fulfilment partner in Shenzhen, China, and the carriers they use receive your name, address, phone number, parcel contents, what you paid for the goods (for the customs declaration), your backer number and, for the UK, whether VAT was collected. They do not receive your email.
- Customs authorities in your country receive your name, address and the parcel’s contents and value, through the carrier.
- Our support inbox (Microsoft 365) receives the messages you send us through this site.
- Tax advisers and authorities, when the law requires it.
We don’t sell your personal information or share it for advertising.
International transfers
Sonify is based in the United States, and international parcels ship from China. If you live in the UK, the EU, Canada or Australia, your information is transferred to these countries. We rely on our providers’ data processing terms, which include the standard contractual clauses approved for the EU and the UK (the UK Addendum), and on the transfer being necessary to deliver your order.
How long we keep it
- Street address and phone number: deleted 90 days after your parcel ships, or 30 days after an order is cancelled.
- Address you saved but never paid for: deleted 90 days after orders close.
- Copies of the emails we send you: deleted 30 days after sending.
- Messages you send us: deleted after 2 years.
- Name, email and order and payment records: kept for 6 years for tax and accounting, then deleted.
- Marketing preference: kept until you change it or unsubscribe.
How we protect it
Your name, email, address, phone number and messages are encrypted in our database. Your backer page opens only through a private link, which we can replace if it’s ever shared by mistake. Only authorised Sonify staff can open the admin area, by signing in through a one-time link sent to their own work email. Every change an admin makes, and every time an admin reveals a backer’s private link, is logged.
Your rights
You can ask us for a copy of your information, ask us to correct or delete it, object to how we use it, or withdraw your marketing consent at any time (every marketing email has an unsubscribe link). Email contact@trysonify.com. If we have to keep something (for example a payment record for tax), we’ll tell you. If you’re unhappy with our answer, you can complain to your local data protection authority: in the UK the Information Commissioner’s Office (ico.org.uk), in the EU your national data protection authority, in Canada the Office of the Privacy Commissioner (priv.gc.ca), and in Australia the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner (oaic.gov.au).
